There are several deep-seated beliefs instilled in the minds of all of us that are really difficult for people to question. The idea that we should reach for a pair of glasses when we get old and our eyesight “inevitably” begins to degrade is one of them.
The fact is that the donning of a pair of glasses is like taking a pain killer to avoid pain, like putting a sticking plaster over skin rash, or like taking a drug to deal with a symptom. Glasses do not address the root cause of why the ability to retain focus is progressively lost. The eye simply adapts to the glasses prescription and the problem often gets steadily worse. The root of the issue lies in the way the eye is used. It is not beyond the ability of anyone to address the way they use their eyes. Also, it is arguably a very worthy cause since wearing glasses is inconvenient (breakage and loss) and the eyes are our most crucial sense. You can improve your eyesight at any age.
Seeing clearly without Glasses
In this weeks Episode of “Living outside the matrix”, I interview David Glassman about the Bates method and how to improve your eyesight. There is much information here for anyone interested in preserving functional eyesight and becoming more conscious.
If we wish to become more conscious we need to know how to use our eyes, along with knowing what food supports our health and what poisons us. These should be basic skills and knowledge possessed by anyone laying claim to being a conscious and thinking man or woman. I recommend you look into this subject because you do not have to reach for glasses or loose your eyesight as you get old – or at any time in your life.
I have written extensively about the issue in my previous post about how the eye works and comparing the mainstream view with the William Bates view. This theory was not originated by him, but he was a keen advocate. I will not duplicate what I have previously said here. I urge you to visit the previous article which goes into depth. The article is called “Think you need glasses? Think again.”
Essential reading
The following is David Glassman’s suggested reading list for anyone wanting to take this knowledge to te next level and gain a comprehensive understanding of how to see clearly without the aid of glasses. These affiliate links will work for UK customers only.
- “The Bates method” by Peter mansfield
- “Better eyesight without glasses” by W H Bates
- “Help Yourself to better sight” by Margaret Darst Corbett
- “The art of seeing” by Aldous Huxley
I hope you get some value from this information as I have. The link between seeing with the eyes and mind is intimate. To see is to understand. Seeing with the eyes is a sense that must be preserved if we are to become more conscious and retain an active, thinking mind.
